Location: In the hollow on the lateral side of the orbital margin, approximately 0.5 cun lateral to the outer canthus.

  • Eye pain, swelling and pain of the eyes, lacrimation, lacrimation on exposure to wind, itching of the eyes, redness and itching of the inner or outer canthus, short sightedness, superficial visual obstruction, dimness of vision, night blindness, deviation of the mouth and eye, throat painful obstruction, headache, pain of the supraorbital region.


  • The Gallbladder, Gallbladder divergent, and Liver channels connect with the eye, and the Liver zang opens into the eyes.
  • Tongziliao GB1 is the first point on the Gallbladder channel and is used to treat all kinds of eye disorders, especially when caused by Liver channel wind-heat.
  • Eye disorders may be due to exterior wind-heat or interior Liver fire, but in practice these two patterns are most often mixed. A person who suffers from Liver fire is prone to attacks of exterior wind or wind-heat. This is referred to as Liver channel wind-heat.
  • Tongziliao GB1 is traditionally indicated for pain, swelling, redness and itching of the eyes, lacrimation and disorders of vision. In modern times it is often used for disorders such as glaucoma, photophobia, cataract, nebula, corneal opacity, keratitis, retinal hemorrhage and atrophy of the optic nerve.
  • GB1 is also commonly used for temporal headache and supraorbital pain, as well as deviation of the mouth and eye due to exterior or interior wind.
  • Tongziliao GB1 is combined with Shaoze SI1 in a classical prescription for breast pain in women. This reflects the pathway of the Gallbladder sinew channel to the breast.

  • Swelling of the breasts in women: GB1 and SI1
