Cautions & Contraindications:

  • Contraindicated for those with loose stools due to Spleen deficiency.

Actions & Indications:

  • Cools the blood and reduces steaming: This herb specifically drains Kidney fire, eliminates lurking heat, and clear heat from the bones. It is used for such symptoms as night sweats, steaming bone disorder with sweating, chronic low grade fever, irritability and thirst. Also for floating fire in the Kindey channel marked by toothache.
  • Clears and drains Lung heat: forĀ  Lung heat cough or wheezing, as in Drain the White Powder (xie bai san).
  • Other combination: With Alumen (bai fan) as an external wash for genital itching; more effective when combined with Cnidii Fructus (she chuang zi), Schisandrae Fructus (wu wei zi) and Menthae haplocalycis Herba (Bo He).
