Cautions & Contraindications:

  • May increase granulomas in the intestines.
  • There are some purity issues with this herb.  From some sources it may contain asbestos.

Actions & Indications:

  • Clears heat and facilitates the resolution of dampness: an important substance in treating hot painful urinary dribbling or any condition with dark, painful, burning, and scanty urine.  Also used for damp-heat generated diarrhea.  Because it expels damp-heat through urine, it is used adjunctively for heat in the qi level with dampness manifested in unremitting fevers, a heavy feeling in the body, thirst, and a yellow tongue coating.
  • Clears summerheat and facilitates the resolution of dampness: for summerheat disorder with fever, urinary difficulty, irritability, and thirst.
  • Absorbs dampness: applied topically for damp skin lesions including eczema, damp sores, and prickly heat.
